Safety Notice (Water Activities)

Last updated: 23 January 2026

This Safety Notice applies to all on-water and water-adjacent activities, trainings, sessions, rentals, and events organised by Cyprus Dragon Boat Federation (“we”, “us”, “our”) at Germasogeia Dam, Limassol and any other locations we may use from time to time.

Participation is conditional on understanding and following this Safety Notice, together with any instructions given by coaches, safety staff, and organisers.

1) Safety first

Your safety and the safety of others is our priority. Dragon boat and paddlesport activities involve water exposure and physical exertion, and therefore carry inherent risks. By participating, you agree to follow instructions and behave responsibly.

We reserve the right to refuse participation, stop an activity, or cancel/reschedule sessions if safety requires it.

2) Eligibility and fitness to participate

You must not participate if you:

  • have a medical condition that makes participation unsafe (e.g., uncontrolled heart conditions, severe respiratory issues, fainting episodes)

  • are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs judgement or coordination

  • feel unwell (fever, dizziness, severe fatigue) or have any symptoms that could place you or others at risk

If you have a relevant medical condition, injury, pregnancy, or any concern about fitness to participate, you should:

  • consult a medical professional before participating, and

  • inform the coach/organiser before the session (discreetly and only to the extent necessary for safety)

3) Minors

Minors may participate only:

  • with parent/guardian consent, and

  • under the supervision rules communicated for the specific activity/session

The parent/guardian (or the booking organiser) is responsible for ensuring the consent is valid and that the minor follows instructions.

4) Mandatory safety rules during sessions

All participants must:

  • attend the safety briefing and follow all coach/staff instructions

  • wear any required safety equipment (e.g., buoyancy aid/life vest) as directed

  • remain seated/positioned as instructed; do not stand or change positions unless instructed

  • keep hands and equipment inside the boat unless instructed otherwise

  • use paddles responsibly and avoid reckless behaviour

  • respect other participants and staff; no aggressive or disruptive conduct

Failure to follow safety rules may result in removal from the activity without refund (where applicable).

5) Personal items and clothing

For safety and practicality:

  • wear appropriate clothing for water activities (quick-dry is recommended)

  • bring water and sun protection (hat, sunscreen) when conditions require it

  • secure personal belongings; avoid bringing valuables on the water

  • phones and electronics should be in waterproof protection (at your own risk)

We are not responsible for loss, theft, or damage of personal items during activities, except where required by law.

6) Weather, water conditions, and environmental factors

Water activities can be affected by weather, wind, visibility, water temperature, and other environmental conditions.

We may modify or cancel activities for safety reasons, including but not limited to:

  • strong wind or unsafe water conditions

  • storms, lightning, or reduced visibility

  • heatwave conditions affecting participant safety

  • equipment or operational constraints

If a session is cancelled by us for safety reasons, we will offer rescheduling or a refund in line with our Booking Terms & Cancellation Policy.

7) Capsize or incident procedure (general guidance)

In the unlikely event of capsize or a water incident:

  • stay calm and follow coach/safety staff instructions

  • remain with the boat unless directed otherwise

  • do not attempt to swim away from the group

  • assist others only if it is safe to do so

Specific procedures may vary by session type and will be explained in the safety briefing.

8) Emergencies and first aid

We maintain practical arrangements for safety support, which may include:

  • trained staff/coaches on-site (where available)

  • first aid resources (where available)

  • emergency escalation procedures

In an emergency, follow the instructions of staff and contact emergency services if required.

Emergency number (Cyprus): 112

9) Liability and assumption of risk

Participation in water activities involves inherent risks. You acknowledge these risks and agree to take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others.

Nothing in this Safety Notice limits liability where it cannot be limited under applicable law (e.g., fraud or wilful misconduct).
