Member Code of Conduct
1. Purpose and Scope
This Code of Conduct (“Code”) sets out the minimum behavioural standards expected of all members of the Cyprus Dragon Boat Federation (“CYDBF”) and applies to all CYDBF-related activities, including but not limited to training sessions, meetings, events, regattas, travel, and competitions, whether held in Cyprus or abroad.
2. Commitment of the Member
By participating in CYDBF activities and/or holding membership with CYDBF, I acknowledge and agree to comply with this Code. I understand that dragon boating participation is grounded in the enjoyment, integrity, safety, and reputation of the sport.
3. Rules and Compliance
I agree that I will:
3.1 Comply with the rules and regulations of the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF), together with any event-specific rules, local regulations, safety briefings, and instructions issued by CYDBF and/or event organisers.
3.2 Follow all reasonable instructions provided by race officials, safety personnel, and authorised CYDBF representatives.
4. Respectful Conduct and Sportsmanship
I agree that I will:
4.1 Treat all participants—teammates, competitors, officials, volunteers, organisers, and spectators—with respect, fairness, and courtesy at all times.
4.2 Demonstrate good sportsmanship, including self-control, professionalism, and respectful communication, regardless of competitive pressure or outcomes.
4.3 Avoid conduct that disrupts an event or undermines the spirit of fair competition.
5. Disputes and Communication with Officials
5.1 I will not engage in direct disputes, confrontations, or arguments with officials during an event.
5.2 Any concern, complaint, or disagreement relating to officiating, rules interpretation, or event management must be communicated through the Team Captain (or a designated team representative), who may formally liaise with the Chief Official in accordance with IDBF procedures and event protocols.
6. Prohibited Conduct
The following conduct is strictly prohibited:
6.1 Verbal abuse, intimidation, harassment, threats, or aggressive behaviour towards officials, participants, or any other person.
6.2 Disparagement, provocation, taunting, or any behaviour intended to distract, provoke, or undermine another paddler, member, team, or official.
6.3 Any form of physical altercation, attempted physical altercation, or threatening physical conduct.
6.4 Unsporting behaviour, including conduct that brings CYDBF, the sport, or an event into disrepute.
7. Inclusion and Non-Discrimination
7.1 CYDBF is committed to an inclusive environment. I agree to respect the rights, dignity, and worth of all participants and to contribute to a welcoming culture for individuals of diverse backgrounds.
7.2 CYDBF has a zero-tolerance policy for discrimination. Discrimination or harassment based on gender, sexuality, ability, cultural background, religion, or any other protected characteristic is strictly prohibited.
8. Fair Play
8.1 I will uphold the principles of fair play and compete ethically.
8.2 I will assume good faith participation by opposing teams and refrain from unfounded accusations or behaviour suggesting others are seeking an unfair advantage without proper evidence and formal process.
9. Sanctions and Event Consequences
9.1 I understand and accept that any member involved in physical or verbal altercations, intimidation, harassment, or serious misconduct may be immediately removed or ejected from the event site, at the discretion of event organisers, officials, and/or CYDBF representatives.
9.2 I understand that poor conduct by any member may result in consequences for the wider team, including warnings, penalties, or disqualification of the entire team, in accordance with event rules and/or IDBF procedures.
9.3 I understand that CYDBF may impose additional disciplinary measures, which may include suspension, termination of membership, and/or referral to relevant authorities where applicable.
10. Acknowledgement and Agreement
I confirm that I have read and understood this Code of Conduct and agree to comply with it fully. I understand that failure to comply may result in immediate removal from events and/or disciplinary action by CYDBF.
