Governance & Structure

The Cyprus Dragon Boat Federation (CyDBF) is governed by a structured leadership team committed to developing and promoting dragon boat racing throughout Cyprus. The Federation operates as the national governing body for the sport, fully registered under KOA, Cyprus Sports Organization, representing Cyprus in continental and international dragon boat organisations, including the European Dragon Boat Federation (EDBF) and the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF), of which Cyprus is a Full Member.

Leadership & Governing Bodies

Executive Board / Committee
At the core of CyDBF’s governance is its Executive Board (or Committee), which provides strategic direction, oversight and accountability for the federation’s activities. The board is typically composed of:

  • President / Chairperson — Acts as the primary representative of the federation, liaises with government bodies and international sport organisations, and leads overall strategy and planning.

  • Vice President(s) — Support the President and oversee specific strategic areas as assigned.

  • Secretary — Manages communications, records, and official documentation.

  • Treasurer / Finance Officer — Oversees financial planning, budgeting and fiscal reporting.

  • Additional elected or appointed Board Members — Represent the membership and provide expertise in areas such as development, competitions, marketing, and athlete welfare.

This leadership team is responsible for high-level decision-making, governance standards, event approvals, and representation of Cyprus in the international dragon boat community.

Note: Specific titles and board member names may change over time—your federation’s constitution or annual general meeting minutes would have the most current list.

General Assembly / Membership

The General Assembly of CyDBF comprises representatives from member clubs across Cyprus. Clubs that are members of the Federation have the right to participate in decision-making through voting at general meetings, such as electing the Executive Board and approving key policies.

Committees & Operational Roles

To support its work throughout the year, the Federation may have sub-committees or operational roles dedicated to:

  • Competition & Technical Affairs — Oversees the organisation of races, competitions and adherence to international racing regulations.

  • Development & Coaching — Focuses on training, coach certification, and athlete pathways.

  • Marketing & Communications — Promotes events and grows public awareness and engagement.

  • Finance & Audit — Ensures transparent financial governance and reporting.

These groups help carry out the Federation’s mission and link directly to the Executive Board.

Affiliation & International Representation

CyDBF is recognised as the official national federation for dragon boating in Cyprus. It is listed as a Full Member of the European DragonBoat Federation, which means it participates in EDBF activities and championships. It also aligns with governance standards set by the International Dragon Boat Federation, the global governing body for the sport.
